The article covers the development of tourist-recreational activities in the conditions of sanctions and macroeconomic instability. The author selected the region of South Russia as the target of analysis, because the territory has a unique natural resource potential, as well as a high level of development of sanatorium-resort sphere, a powerful and diversified economic complex. The author characterizes the indicators of tourism development in modern conditions and describes the southern Federal District by a quantity of subjects of sanatorium-resort activities. The study reveals the dynamics of development results of profile enterprises in health tourism over the last few years, outlines the trends and key factors having both positive and negative impacts on the further growth of socio-economic indicators. The author gives reasons for the necessity for sustainable growth of tourism and the sanatorium-resort complex, identifies some obstacles to their effective operation and development of constituent entities of the South of Russia. Besides, the author offers solutions to improve the efficiency of our core businesses health tourism.
