Political and economic changes taking place in our country urge for restructuring of agriculture, which should change working and living conditions in rural areas. Factors contributing to implementation of this goal in rural areas are as follows: low price of land, cheap labor force, relatively good environmental conditions, low criminal level, natural background of the area for implementation of some form of economic activity. Selection of function that will be introduced in some districts and villages is largely dependent on the decision of local governments, and adopted scheme of development of subordinated territory. Agrotourism can be one of such restructuring types, promoting revitalization of rural population and providing it with additional income. In this regard, the authors assessed the possible development of agrotourism in Almaty region. As a result of assessment, Alakol, Balkhash, Raiymbek districts received high scores indicating high resource potential for the development of agrotourism types, and a scale ranged to intervals and a cartogram «Potential development of agrotourism in Almaty region» have been composed.
