Large consumer markets, including the tourism and hospitality market, have turned out to be especially vulnerable. At the same time, the tourism industry in the countries with a small contribution of tourism to GDP lost significantly less, and in some cases even gained some advantages due to the reduced intensity of international competition and protectionist measures of national governments. The Russian Federation, despite the lower indicators in the development of domestic tourism, received new development opportunities. This study proposes an analysis of the changes taking place in the Russian tourism and hospitality market, on the basis of which it will be possible to determine new directions of development, taking into account regional specifics and transformations in the field of tourist behavior. During the study, the following methods were used: comparative analysis, quantitative and qualitative measurements, expert methods and elements of content analysis. The results obtained made it possible to substantiate that crisis situations have not only negative consequences, but also allow one to more deeply comprehend the situation, finding in it a useful beginning for further development. So, in particular, during the 2020 pandemic, the Government of the Russian Federation was able to formulate and propose a number of very effective measures to support the domestic tourism business, on the basis of the use of which a significant part of tourism and hotel enterprises were able to maintain their market potential.</p>
<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>In the current conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic, many sectors of the economy have suffered serious losses.
