All of the above processes are limited by the global trend of reducing the carbon footprint through improving technology, techniques, and energy transition. In the industries of leading countries, climate requirements have provoked significant structural changes, which they interpret as a guarantee of technological leadership and factors for intensifying economic growth. The emergence of data regarding new requirements for industries requires analysis, the result of which will be balanced recommendations on such adjustments to the industrial strategy that will combine the advantages of the Russian resource base, steps towards technological sovereignty with global trends in innovative production development. The purpose of this study is to find the optimal burden of industrial enterprises with the tasks of minimizing the carbon footprint, without reducing the economic efficiency of their work. The Russian industrial development strategy is designed to ensure an improvement in the quality of life of the population, combined with technological development. To achieve the purpose of the study, the analytical method, expert assessments, and abstract-logical methods were used. The empirical base was the materials of the largest industrial companies. The object of the study was the enterprises of the Russian industrial complex, whose industry affiliation predetermines the need to solve the carbon footprint problem. The study revealed the possibility of combining the principles of technological sovereignty and carbon footprint reduction with the social responsibility of companies in the industrial development strategy.
