The emerging landscape of international educational mobility and the trajectory of change in the global education market

In the article, the authors consider how the landscape of international educational mobility is changing. Despite the fact that structural constraints related to migration policy, stricter visa and financial requirements are increasing on the part of individual host countries, and the burden on the infrastructure of host cities is increasing, the statistical picture confirms that the demand for foreign education remains high. It is against this background that the structural changes taking place in recent years have become particularly noticeable. These changes are gradually reshaping the geography and dynamics of cross-border movements for educational purposes, reducing the availability of traditional destinations, while stimulating the development of regional forms of mobility and hybrid educational models. The authors note that international student mobility is entering a more fragmented, policy-sensitive phase. Although the Big Four countries remain the leading destination, their market leadership is beginning to weaken. The scenario analysis presented by QS Global Student Flows shows the possibility of three trajectories for the development of global educational mobility: "regulated regionalism", "hybrid multi-university" and "restoration of the talent race". Mobility is becoming not just an element of educational policy, but also a factor of economic development, territorial stability and international competition for human capital. The authors analyze the trajectories, pointing out that all three scenarios do not exclude each other and can be implemented in parallel in different regions, setting a mosaic configuration of the future landscape of international mobility.
