Features of Social Adaptation of Older Adults through Intellectual-Creative and Active Leisure Activities
In contemporary socio-cultural conditions, there is a pressing need for the social adaptation of elderly citizens through intellectual-creative and active forms of leisure organization. One of the strategic objectives in modern Russia is to improve the health and communication skills of elderly citizens and increase their healthy life expectancy. A sociological study was conducted using a mass questionnaire survey, applying sampling, typification, comparison, and statistical analysis methods. Special attention is given to the necessity of creating conditions for maintaining active longevity and enhancing the communicative potential of older people. The study examined the motivations of elderly people when choosing leisure activities, and assessed their potential participation in cultural, recreational and health-promoting events, depending on their place of residence, social well-being, satisfaction with their health status and value orientations. The study also described the socio-demographic profile of the respondents. The study aimed to investigate the socio-demographic characteristics of the urban and rural pension-age (older) population of the Republic of Adygea; to assess the satisfaction of pension-age citizens with their self-organised leisure; to identify the preferences (needs) of pension-age citizens for intellectual-creative and active forms of leisure organization; and to formulate key recommendations for developing technologies for the adaptation of pension-age citizens through intellectual-creative and active leisure activities. The obtained data are utilised to develop recommendations for improving social adaptation technologies for older adults.
