THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NETWORK OF PROTECTED
Protected areas totally or partially withdrawn from economic use are of paramount importance for the conservation of biological and landscape diversity as the basis of the biosphere. In view of the increasing threat of natural disasters and environmental changes as a result of economic activity, the main purpose of protected areas is to maintain the ecological stability of territories, significantly altered by economic activity, reproduction in vivo of renewable natural resources, maintaining a healthy environment for people’s life, and to create the conditions for development of regulated tourism and recreation, scientific research. This article is a brief history of the creation of specially protected natural territories in Belgorod region. It reveals some features of the network of protected areas in Belgorod region, and describes the analysis of the land fund, species and protected areas in the context of borders of municipalities. The authors also demonstrate the basic problems of the natural reserve fund of Belgorod region. The prospects for the development of protected areas in the area are discussed.
