On the development of beer tourism in the Chuvash Republic

Hop-growing is deeply rooted in tradition in the Chuvash Republic, where beer is the national drink and an integral part of local culture. Its history dates back centuries. The region has all the prerequisites for the development of gastronomic tourism, in particular, its variety – beer. Beer and hops can become a full-fledged tourist brand in the segment of gastronomic tourism, which confirms the popularity of the Green Gold of Russia festival. The goal is to study the prerequisites for the development of beer tourism, as a combination of such areas as gastronomic, ethnic and agro-industrial. The concepts and definitions of 'gastronomic tourism' proposed by the World Tourism Organization and researchers specialising in gastronomic tourism were analyzed as research materials. The study analyzes countries and regions specializing in this type of tourism, and also identifies the main factors contributing to the formation and growth of beer tourism, which is not only an instrument of economic growth, but also a way to preserve identity in the Chuvash Republic. Attention in the study is also paid to the analysis of trends in the development of gastronomic tourism in Chuvashia, as well as the prospects for organizing a beer tourist route project. Beer tourism can become not just one of the brands of Chuvashia, but also make the republic a center of attraction for connoisseurs of brewing industry products, provided that a number of obstacles are overcome and proper investments are attracted. The results of the study can be useful for representatives of small and medium-sized businesses. Beer tourism has the potential to become not just one of Chuvashia's brands but also a magnet for brewing enthusiasts, provided several obstacles are overcome and adequate investment is attracted. The study's results may be useful for small and medium-sized businesses.
